UNIONVILLE, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens (26-3-2, 8-0) used a six-run second inning en route to an 11-1 win after five innings against the Cannon County Lady Lions (6-12, 2-6) to get started off on the right foot in the District 9-AA Tournament.

UNIONVILLE, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens (26-3-2, 8-0) used a six-run second inning en route to an 11-1 win after five innings against the Cannon County Lady Lions (6-12, 2-6) to get started off on the right foot in the District 9-AA Tournament.
Annie Prince got the start in the circle, striking out seven of the eight batters she faced on 33 pitches while tallying her 500th career strikeout in the process. Taylor Wessner came on to pitch the final 2.2 innings, giving up one earned run on a solo home run from Anna Wood with four total hits and three strikeouts on 38 pitches.
For Cannon County, Addison Estes started in the circle, pitching into the bottom of the fifth inning before the Viqueens reached the run-rule threshold. Estes gave up 11 earned runs on nine hits and nine walks as well as a home run to Mattie Maxey (7).
After Prince posted a quick zero in the top of the first, the Viqueens plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to jump ahead, 2-0. Community’s offense really got rolling in the second inning, blowing the game open by scoring six runs to take a commanding 8-0 lead.
Neither team scored in the third, and then Community added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 10-0 lead.
Cannon County managed to avoid the shutout when Anna Wood launched her second home run of the season in the top of the fifth inning, but then the Viqueens walked off the Lady Lions in the bottom of the fifth after getting the run back to advance to the District 9-AA Semifinals, 11-1.
For the Viqueens, Anna Haskins went 1-2 with a double (4), an RBI, and two walks in the leadoff spot. Mattie Maxey finished 1-3 with a 2-RBI (20) HR– her seventh round-tripper of the season – to go along with one walk, Gracie Daniel went 2-3 with a walk and a double (10), and Carlie Blanton finished 2-3 with a pair of RBIs (22) and a walk. Haylee Webb went 2-3 with two RBIs (13), Taylor Wessner went 1-3 with a walk, and Kamryn Farrell drew a walk and was hit by a pitch.
For Cannon County, Anna Wood went 1-3 with her solo HR (2) in the fifth, August Morris finished 1-3, Alyssa Calamia went 1-2, and Kurstin Warrick finished 1-2 with a double (3).
Community is scheduled to host the 2-seed Lady Rockets of Chapel Hill in the District 9-AA Semifinals on Wednesday night with first-pitch set for 5:30 p.m. Annie Prince (13-1, 0.57 ERA) is expected to start in the circle again for the Viqueens.
