Shelbyville Central Tennis Splits At Tullahoma and versus Marshall County

TULLAHOMA, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (12-0, 8-0) took down District 6-AA foe Tullahoma, 9-0, while the Eaglettes (5-7, 5-3) fell to the Wildcats, 5-4, in Thursday’s ‘Battle of Highway 41-A’ at Tullahoma High School.

In the girls’ doubles, Lilly Smith and Lydia Yoes took down Ella Matthews and Mae Reed, 8-5, on Court One. On Court Two, Evony Smith and Jackie Juarez beat Wen Ni Lin and Adyson Orr, 8-5, while Jade Tolar and Morales fell to Jacy Murrary and Lea Fogourty, 8-6, on Court Three.

In the singles’ matches, Lilly Smith dispatched Reed with ease, 8-2, on Court One, Yoes struggled against Matthews and fell, 8-1, on Court Two, and Evony Smith came up just short against Wen Ni Lin, 8-6, on Court Three. Tolar was outlasted by Murrary in a tiebreaker, 9-7, on Court Five, and Fagourty took down Frazier, 8-2, on Court Six to seal the win for Tullahoma.

In the boys’ doubles, Henry Stone and Tucker Johnson made quick work of Tommy Phan and Eli, 8-1, on Court One. On Court Two, Carter Watson and Tanner Johnson also took down Stigen Ha and Carter Woodward with ease, 8-1, while Ryan Jaykus and Daniel Hernandez beat Fletcher Orr and Tyler, 8-3, on Court Three.

In the singles’ matches, Stone outlasted Phan in a tiebreaker, 9-7, on Court One, Tucker Johnson made quick work of Woodward, 8-2, on Court Two, and Watson took down Ha, 8-4, on Court Three. On Court Four, Tanner Johnson persevered over a feisty Orr in another tiebreaker, 9-7, while Hernandez and Jaykus both won their matches, 8-4, on Court Five and Court Six to complete the sweep.

Shelbyville Central also split with non-district foe Marshall County at home on Friday with the Eaglettes falling 5-4 while the Golden Eagles won 6-3. 

Shelbyville Central returns to District 6-AA play on Tuesday at home against Lawrenceburg at 3:00 p.m.
