Three Blue Raiders Earn Conference USA Scholar Athlete Awards

DALLAS – Three Middle Tennessee student-athletes earned Conference USA Scholar Athlete Awards for their respective sports, as announced by the league Friday. Owen Stamper earned the men's golf honor for the second consecutive season, while Leo Raquin took the men's tennis award and Purity Sanga was named the women's cross country Scholar Athlete Award recipient. This marks the second straight year that three Blue Raiders have earned Scholar Athlete Award honors.

Stamper, a Scottsville, Kentucky native takes home the men's golf Scholar Athlete Award for the second consecutive season. He represented the Blue Raiders as an individual at the NCAA West Lafayette Regional. The senior finished in the top five of four tournaments, including a win at the Argent Financial Classic, while also being named to the CUSA Commissioner's Honor Roll. He concluded his career with a 72.2 scoring average and a career-low round of 65, as well as being named the 2023 CUSA Golfer of the Year.

Raquin, a native of Besancon, France, went 18-9 at the top spot for the Blue Raiders in 2023-24. The senior caps off a season that saw him named CUSA Player of the Year, CUSA Newcomer of the Year, earn First Team All-CUSA in both singles and doubles, as well as, named to the CUSA Commissioner's Honor Roll. He finished his career with 100 wins, boasting a 56-17 singles record and 44-23 doubles mark.

Sanga, a graduate student from Kapsabet, Kenya, won the 2023 CUSA Championships as Individual and went on to place 13th at NCAA South Regionals in the 6k with a personal best time of 19:01.30. The first team All-CUSA runner was also named the CUSA Cross Country Women's Athlete of the Year, CUSA Championships Most Outstanding Senior and earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors, as well as, being named to the CUSA All-Academic Team.

MTSU, Owen Stamper, Leo Raquin, and Purity Sanga
