HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens (24-3-2, 5-0) went 2-1 in the Griffin Classic over the weekend, falling to Beech (10-10, 3-5) in the first game on Saturday before taking down Stewarts Creek (21-6-1) and Greenbrier (9-14, 2-3) to end the day.

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens (24-3-2, 5-0) went 2-1 in the Griffin Classic over the weekend, falling to Beech (10-10, 3-5) in the first game on Saturday before taking down Stewarts Creek (21-6-1) and Greenbrier (9-14, 2-3) to end the day.
In game one against the Lady Buccaneers, Community fell down 6-0 after Beech put together a five-run second inning, eventually falling, 8-5, in five innings.
The Viqueens outhit the Bucs, 11-7, but three errors in the field cost Community. Haylee Webb got the start in the circle, throwing the full 4.0 innings, giving up eight runs with only two earned on seven hits and one walk to go with two strikeouts on 68 pitches.
For Beech, Abi Thompson threw the first 3.1 innings, giving up three earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts on 59 pitches. Hayleigh Deering came on in relief, getting through the final 1.2 innings and giving up a pair of unearned runs on two hits and two strikeouts on 38 pitches.
Dani James led the Lady Bucs at the plate, finishing 2-3 with three RBIs, a HBP, a double, and a home run. Emily Trivino, batting second behind James, finished 3-3 with an RBI. Hayleigh Deering went 0-3 while recording an RBI, and Emmy Whitaker also finished hitless (0-2) but drove home a pair of runs.
For the Viqueens, Haylee Webb, Carlie Blanton, and Gracie Daniel went a combined 8-9 at the plate with five runs scored and two RBIs. Blanton finished 3-3 with both RBIs and a double, Webb went 2-3 with a pair of runs scored, and Daniel went 3-3 with two more runs scored. Taylor Wessner and Alana Tate drove home the other three runs with Wessner using a sac-fly and Tate using a 2-RBI single.
Beech opened the scoring in the bottom of the first before exploding for five runs in the second to take a commanding 6-0 lead.
Neither team scored in the third, and then Community finally broke the seal with three runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead in half, 6-3. However, Beech responded with two runs in the home half to extend the lead back to five runs, 8-3.
Community got those two runs back in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 8-5, but when Beech retired the final batter, the game was called due to time constraints.
In the second game of the day, the Viqueens bounced back with a shutout-win over Stewarts Creek, 3-0.
Annie Prince got the start in the circle, throwing a complete-game two-hit shutout while striking out 10 batters on just 70 pitches.
Her counterpart for the Redhawks, Kaydence Mashburn, went a complete 6.0 innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits and one walk to go along with one strikeout on 52 pitches.
Mattie Maxey opened the scoring in the bottom of the third by launching her team-leading sixth home run of the season to give the Viqueens a 1-0 lead. Maxey finished 2-3 at the plate overall.
Taylor Wessner smoked a triple in the bottom of the sixth inning for her first and only hit of the game to jump-start a two-run inning for Community. Haylee Webb drove Wessner home on a sac-fly to give the Viqueens a 2-0 lead, and then Victoria Wells drove home Alana Clark – courtesy running for Carlie Blanton – after Blanton got on base with a single and Clark stole a pair of bases to extend the lead to the final margin of 3-0.
Community ended the day with a dominant 9-3 win over Greenbriar as the Viqueens’ offense totaled 12 hits and three triples en route to an impressive offensive performance.
Taylor Wessner got the start in the circle for Community, throwing a full 6.0 innings and giving up three runs with one earned on six hits and one walk to go with six strikeouts on 105 pitches.
For the Lady Bobcats, Shyann Freeland got the start, throwing 3.0 innings and giving up four earned runs on five hits on 37 pitches. Joanna Braun came on in relief, working through the final 3.0 innings and giving up five runs with four earned on seven hits on 40 pitches.
Greenbriar actually scored first in the bottom of the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead into the second inning. Community punched back with a tying-run in the top of the second before the Lady Bobcats plated two more in the bottom of the third to move back in front, 3-1.
The Viqueens plated four runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead for good, 5-3, before scoring three more in the top of the fifth and one more in the top of the sixth to reach the final margin of 9-3.
At the plate, Community’s leadoff batter, Anna Haskins, went 1-4, Maxey went 3-4 with two triples, one RBI, and three runs scored, and Alana Tate finished 2-3 with two RBIs. Wessner went 2-3 with three runs scored, Carlie Blanton went 3-3 with a double and a game-high four RBIs, and McKenzie Tucker finished 1-3 with two RBIs.
Community hosts Zion Christian on Monday at 5:30 p.m. before closing out the regular season against Cannon County on Tuesday with first-pitch set for 6:00 p.m.
