SUMMERTOWN, Tenn. – Annie Prince threw a complete-game no-hitter, Mattie Maxey launched a pair of home runs, and the Community Viqueens (14-6, 4-0) remained undefeated in District 9-AA play with a 6-1 win at Summertown (13-6, 3-1) on Tuesday night.
Community’s Annie Prince administered a season-high six walks in the circle, but she struck out nine batters and gave up zero earned runs while throwing a no-hitter on 110 pitches.
For the Lady Eagles, Olivia Woods pitched 3.0 innings, giving up five runs – two earned – on three hits while striking out four batters on 56 pitches. Woods also gave up three home runs. Mary Parson came on in relief for the final 4.0 innings, giving up one earned run on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts on 67 pitches.
Mattie Maxey got the party started in the first inning, sending a two-out moonshot out to left field in an 0-1 count to put the Viqueens on top, 1-0.
After Prince threw a scoreless home half, Kailani Allen teed off on Woods, crushing a 3-2 pitch to straightaway center field to double the Viqueens’ lead to 2-0.
Prince once again put another zero on the board in the bottom of the second inning, and then the Viqueens’ offense began to take advantage of Summertown mistakes. Alana Tate hustled out an infield groundball, forcing a throwing error to reach safely. She then swiped second base before Haskins’ pop-up back to second base landed harmlessly on the dirt, giving the visitors runners on first and second with nobody out. After Kamryn Farrell was retired, Maxey stepped back into the box and greeted the first pitch she saw with a towering blast over the left field wall for her team-leading seventh home run of the year to give the Viqueens a 5-0 lead in the third inning.
Summertown found a way to score their lone run of the night when a passed ball allowed Reagan Stephens to beat the tag at the plate and trim the lead to 5-1, but the Viqueens quickly got that run back in the top of the sixth when Alana Tate’s bunt resulted in Hayden Moore escaping a pickle and coming home to score.
Prince slammed the door shut in the bottom of the seventh to pick up her 12th win of the season.
At the plate for Community, the Viqueens came up with seven hits as a team. Maxey went 2-for-2 with four RBIs and two walks with two home runs. Gracie Daniel was 1-for-3, Allen finished 2-for-4 with an RBI on her second home run of the year, Annie Prince went 1-for-2 with a walk, and Ryleigh Lassiter finished 1-for-3 with a double.
The Community Viqueens host Eagleville on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. before returning to District 9-AA play on Tuesday, Apr. 21 at home against Summertown.
