UNIONVILLE, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens (15-6, 4-0) outlasted the Eagleville Lady Eagles (7-5, 2-1) in a high-scoring affair on Wednesday night, 13-12 after eight innings.
A series of three consecutive singles resulted in the winning run scored by Mattie Maxey after Haylee Webb drove her home with a line drive to left field in the bottom of the eighth.
The Viqueens’ offense was locked in from the first pitch, tallying 20 hits as a team and leaving just five baserunners stranded all game. Meanwhile, Community’s defense committed six errors to aid the Lady Eagles’ effort.
Gracie Daniel got the start in the circle, going 2.0 innings and giving up five runs – one earned – on six hits with two strikeouts on 44 pitches. Annie Prince came on in relief, pitching 3.0 innings and giving up four runs – two earned – on three hits and four walks with six strikeouts on 69 pitches. Finally, Kamryn Farrell pitched the final 3.0 innings, giving up three runs – two earned – on four hits with one strikeout on 44 pitches.
Eagleville jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning after an error helped spark the rally. The Viqueens got three of those runs back in the home half, then scored another in the second to trim the lead to 5-4.
The Lady Eagles plated two more in the top of the third before the Viqueens squared the game up at 7-7 with another three-run inning in the home half. Neither team scored in the fourth, then both teams plated two runs in the fifth.
Eagleville added one run in the sixth, but the Viqueens took their first lead of the night at 11-10 with two more runs in the home half. Eagleville retook the lead with two runs in the top of the seventh, 12-11, before the Viqueens tied the game up at 12-12 with one run in the bottom of the seventh.
In the eighth, Farrell held Eagleville scoreless, allowing Maxey, Gracie Daniel, and Webb to all single and score the winning run.
At the plate, the Viqueens once again found success with the long ball, this time thanks to two home runs from Annie Prince and one from Kailani Allen. Anna Haskins led off going 2-for-5 with an RBI and a double, Farrell went 2-for-5 with a double, and Maxey finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. Daniel was 3-for-5, Webb finished 4-for-5 with three RBIs, and Allen went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and her third home run of the year. Prince was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two homers, bringing her tally to four round-trippers on the season, Ryleigh Lassiter went 1-for-4, and Alana Tate finished 1-for-4 as well.
Community travels to Stewarts Creek on Monday with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.
