Viqueens Out-Slug Stewart County to Clinch Third State Trip in Four Years

UNIONVILLE, Tenn. – After being upset at home by Cheatham County, the Community Viqueens (30-8, 7-0) made no mistake this time, out-slugging Stewart County (15-14, 3-2) in an eventual 15-4 run-rule win in five innings to punch their ticket back to the 2026 TSSAA Class AA Softball State Tournament.

“It [Getting back to State] means everything,” Viqueens Head Coach Cam Farrell said postgame, “I don’t know if people understand what a gauntlet that this is. It kills your nerves, one game you’re facing elimination, one game you’re moving on, and the girls have to be ready to go. It’s also hard to reign in and make sure everyone’s attitudes are straight because we’ve been working out together since August. To get back and have them still energized and focused on the ultimate goal is great.”

The Viqueens picked up their 30th win of the season in the process, tallying 15 hits in just 4.1+ innings compared to the Rebels’ five. Community also committed zero errors compared to Stewart County’s three.

After neither team scored in the first inning, Community put up a five-spot in the bottom of the second to grab control of the contest. Haylee Webb opened the inning with a leadoff double, Annie Prince reached safely on a dropped pop-fly by the shortstop, and then Kailani Allen roped a 2-RBI double to the wall in left field. Alana Tate walked and stole second, and then a wild pitch allowed Allen to slide home safely and take a 3-0 lead. Anna Haskins delivered an RBI-single back up the middle to score Tate, and then Kamryn Farrell slapped an RBI-double to score Haskins and take a 5-0 lead.

After a scoreless third inning, Emma Borden got the Rebels on the scoreboard with a solo home run to left-center field in the top of the fourth, but the Viqueens would respond almost immediately in the home half.

Alana Tate singled, Hayden Moore singled on a bunt to flip the lineup over, and then Haskins worked a walk to load the bases. Farrell drove home Tate on an RBI-groundout to take a 6-1 lead, and then Gracie Daniel delivered a hard-hit 2-RBI double that split the gap in left-center field to grow the lead to 8-1. Mattie Maxey followed that up with an RBI-double of her own to give Annie Prince a 9-1 lead to work with when she trotted back out to the circle for the top of the fifth inning.

Stewart County would plate three more runs of their own when Neely Cook launched a 3-run home run to trim the lead to 9-4, but the Community bats were ready to do more damage in the bottom of the fifth.

Kailani Allen led off with a single, Tate reached on a bunt-single that resulted in runners reaching second and third, and then a throwing error on a Moore grounder allowed Tate to score the first of six runs in the inning. Moore headed to second, Haskins singled, and then Farrell singled home Moore for another run. Gracie Daniel delivered an RBI-double to take a 12-4 lead, and then Mattie Maxey delivered the final blow with a no-doubt 3-run home run over the left-field wall to trigger the run-rule in walk-off fashion, 15-4.

“I told them before the game that last time we were hosting sub-state, we got lit up,” Farrell said, “I knew that they [Stewart County] could hit. They got four kids that can really hit the ball, and I told them coming in that we were going to have to score at least seven runs to win. Annie [Prince] worked some different pitches because we knew the umpire behind the plate doesn’t like anything up, and she did well. They got a couple good hits, but that’s a good hitting team. We kept the one I was really scared of at bay, No. 10 [Cara Bucciarelli]. I’m proud of them. My emotions are everywhere, but I’m just so proud of them.”

Now, the Viqueens will head back to Murfreesboro for the second-consecutive season, as well as the third time in the last four seasons. In 2025, Community’s season came to a close in the semifinals against the eventual State Champions, Liberty Creek. The Lady Wolves are now in Class 3A, and the Viqueens have their eye on the gold ball this time.

“Everybody just needs to do their job,” Farrell said, “We can’t be dependent on one pitcher, we have to play defense, and we’ve got to hit. If they just continue to do what they’ve been doing for one game at a time, we’ll be alright.”

At the plate for the Viqueens, Anna Haskins led off going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a walk, Farrell was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a double, and Daniel finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two doubles. Mattie Maxey was 2-for-4 with four RBis, a double, and a home run. Haylee Webb went 1-for-2 with a double and was hit by a pitch, Allen was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double, Tate went 2-for-2 with a walk, and Moore finished 1-for-3.

In the circle, Annie Prince went the complete 5.0 innings, giving up four earned runs on five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts on 71 pitches to pick up the win.

Community is set to take on Kingston in a heavyweight matchup on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at McKnight Field No. 3 in the first round of the 2026 Class AA Softball State Tournament.
